Emanuel Drahan originally developed this book as the first national embroidery school textbook of Austria-Hungary. With six sections, skills could be mastered before moving to the next level of complexity. In order to reach a broad audience, the sections could also be purchased as individual pages.

This edition is in English translation and the patterns transcribed. It is also has a list of some of the works of the very early designers from whom Herr Drahan may have found inspiration.

The current edition is part of the series: 1) Charted Embroidery Patterns of the Renaissance [CEPR] and 2) Early Modern Embroidery and Lace Pattern Books [EMEL].
